The Kellogg Community College Marketing and Communications Department has won three prestigious awards for the department’s efforts to promote the College during the 2022-23 academic year.

The awards include two prestigious Paragon Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations as well as a prestigious Production Award from the Association of College and University Printers (ACUP+).

The NCMPR Paragon Awards are international awards recognizing outstanding achievement in design and communication at community and technical colleges in the United States and Canada. The awards competition is the only one of its kind and honors excellence exclusively among marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges.

Award recipients were announced March 31 during an awards ceremony at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando. The NCMPR announced KCC had won awards in the following categories:

  • Print Advertisement (Single or Series) awards category: KCC won a first-place Gold Paragon Award for a full-page, full-color ad designed for the Lakeview High School student newspaper The Crystal, promoting KCC’s Exercise Science and Sports Management programs.
  • Annual Report awards category: KCC won a third-place Bronze Paragon Award for the December 2021 edition of BruIN magazine, which doubled as the College’s Annual Report.

ACUP+ is a national organization that promotes and establishes communication and professional development opportunities for educational employees who work in in-plant print and mail operations. ACUP+ Awards recipients were announced April 5 during the ACUP+ Awards Gala in Lincoln Nebraska.

ACUP+ announced KCC had won a Gold Award in the Digital Single Piece category for the College’s Info at a Glance brochure.

“These awards showcase the true breadth of talent and experience exhibited by the Marketing and Communications team,” said Marketing Director Simon Thalmann. “From ideation and strategy to design and publishing, our team continues to operate at the highest levels of our field to communicate the great work being done at Kellogg Community College.”

KCC’s Marketing and Communications Department provides a variety of in-house strategy development, marketing management, graphic design and print services under the leadership of Eric Greene, vice president for communications and advancement. The marketing team has won a total of 13 prestigious Paragon Awards since 2012, as well as 64 Medallion Awards – regional honors bestowed by the NCMPR – over the same time period. This is the second consecutive year the College has won an ACUP+ Award; the College won a Platinum Award in 2022 for the College’s 2021 Annual Report.

Department employees include Mackenzie Griffith, graphic design process specialist; June Lewis, print and document services process specialist; Mike Loader, print and document services specialist; Cab Rininger, media design manager; Krissy Stolz, marketing and communications specialist; and Simon Thalmann, marketing director. The department also employs part-time student workers as an opportunity for KCC students to learn valuable, on-the-job marketing, communication and design skills.
