Kellogg Community College youth theatre campers will present four showings of “Matilda the Musical” this month on campus in Battle Creek.
Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23; at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 24; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25. All performances will be held at the Binda Performing Arts Center on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.
Tickets are $10 (cash or check only) and can be purchased at the door or in advance from the Lifelong Learning Office in Room 305 of the Lane-Thomas Building on campus.
The “Matilda the Musical” performances are the result of two full weeks of all-day Bruin Youth Programming theatre day camps at the College held in partnership with Battle Creek’s Unity Theatre Company.
The musical will feature a cast that ranges in age from 10 through 18 under the direction of Unity Theatre Company Director Jack Austin, Choreographer Tsea Hensel and Musical Director Logan Robertson; all three are graduates of Lakeview High School.
The show is a musical stage adaptation of the beloved 1988 children’s novel “Matilda” by Roald Dahl, which follows an intelligent young child who develops special powers growing up in a troubled home. It opened in England in 2010 before making its way to Broadway in 2013 and has since won several awards, including multiple Tony Awards.
