Kellogg Community College is again recognized as one of the best colleges in the United States to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For program.
The results, released this week at GreatCollegesList.com, are the product of a 2023 survey of 194 colleges and universities in the U.S., of which just 72 achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies.
Results of the 2023 survey are reported for institutions of all sizes and include 50 four-year institutions and 22 two-year institutions. KCC is the only community college in Michigan recognized with the honor and is one of just three institutions honored statewide.
KCC won honors in the “Compensation & Benefits” category, which is based on employee satisfaction data derived from a campus survey conducted earlier this year. According to Great Colleges, the honor in this category is based on the perception among employees that they are compensated fairly and that benefits are adequate, contributing to a feeling that employees feel valued and respected at KCC.
KCC was awarded the same honor in 2022.
“Kellogg Community College is honored to be named a 2023 Great College to Work For for the second year in a row,” KCC President Dr. Paul Watson said. “This recognition reflects our commitment to fostering a positive and supportive work environment for our dedicated employees. We believe that fair compensation and benefits are essential in ensuring that our staff feels valued and respected. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire college community.”
“Participation in the Great Colleges program alone demonstrates a commitment from colleges to opening a dialogue with their faculty and staff,” said Karen Kukulka, chief operating officer at ModernThink, the firm that administers the Great Colleges program. “Pair that commitment with recognition in a key area of engagement, and you’ve got a group of institutions who are putting the best practices of employee engagement to work. They are walking the talk.”
Survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, maintenance and support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
The Great Colleges to Work For program, now in its sixteenth year, is one of the largest workplace recognition programs in the country.
