Kellogg Community College Theatre is proud to present five showings of the popular comedic musical “Firebringer” on campus this month in Battle Creek.
First produced by innovative theatre company StarKid Productions in 2016, the show follows a prehistoric tribe of cavepeople as they navigate the discovery of fire.
The musical, which features more than a dozen local student and community cast members, will show at:
- 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16
- 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17
- 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18
- 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19
All shows will be held at the Binda Performing Arts Center on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.
Tickets are $10 each for students, KCC faculty and staff and seniors, and $15 each for the general public. They can be purchased onsite before each show or reserved in advance through the KCC Theatre Box Office by calling 269-965-4154.
All proceeds from the production will go toward the College’s Summer 2025 student theatre trip to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
KCC Theatre professor and Theatre Program Coordinator Brad Poer said the show is in the PG-13 range content-wise and is a bit like watching a musical cross between “The Flintstones” and “South Park.”
“It’s both smart and juvenile, groovy and heartfelt, and has moral lessons at its core while also having a penchant for grown-up words and schoolyard comedy,” Poer said. “It’s a great date/night out for parents and high school or college students, but if your kids are under 13 make sure you’re OK with them hearing a bit of language and jokes about bodily functions!”
Individuals who can’t make a show but who would like to donate directly to support the group’s upcoming trip to Scotland can email Poer for details at poerb@kellogg.edu.
