High school runners can get a jump on preparations for the 2024 track season in KCC’s new Pre-Season Track Camp starting Jan. 29.
The new camp, coordinated in partnership with KCC’s Lifelong Learning and Athletics departments, is for youth ages 14 through 18 and will run indoors from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays Jan. 29 through March 6 at KCC’s Miller Physical Education Building, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.
Registration is $100 and can be complete online at https://reg136.imperisoft.com/kellogg/ProgramDetail/3332363138/Registration.aspx.
The camp will be led by Head KCC Cross-Country Coach Tom Shaw, who coached the men’s and women’s teams to runner-up finishes at regionals and a seventh-place finish nationally for the men’s team this fall.
Camp instruction will cover strength training, injury prevention and proper body movements. Specifically, campers will learn:
- How to keep healthy for track season and ensure their running form helps prevent injury
- How to break down mechanics and movement patterns their bodies can use to run more efficiently
- How to start using strength and stretching techniques specific for runners, using their bodies rather than equipment
