Four Kellogg Community College cross country runners earned postseason athletics awards from the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and/or National Junior College Athletic Association for their performances this season.
It was another incredible season under third-year Head Coach Tom Shaw, with both teams topping last year’s second-place regional finishes with regional championships this year. The men’s team ultimately finished fifth in the nation and the women’s team finished seventh in the nation at the NJCAA National Championships in Virginia Nov. 9.
The finish for the men’s team ties 2018 for the best national finish in program history.
KCC award winners include:
- Women’s freshman Chloe Badger (East Leroy/Athens High School), NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team
- Men’s freshman Julian Borst (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School), NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American, NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team, All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA West All-Conference Team, MCCAA West All-Freshman Team
- Men’s sophomore Alex Steward (Hastings/Hastings High School), NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team
- Women’s sophomore Brenna Withers (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School), NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team
In addition to the above awards, Borst was the individual NJCAA Region 12 Division III regional champion and finished sixth in the nation at nationals. In October he broke the school record with a time 45 seconds faster than the second-best time in program history.
