Kellogg Community College Theatre and Battle Creek’s What A Do Theatre Company are holding auditions to fill more than a dozen roles for the Tony-Award-winning Stephen Sondheim musical “Into the Woods” this month on campus in Battle Creek.
Auditions for the play – the first full mainstage collaboration for the two organizations – will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 23 and 24, at KCC’s Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. Individuals auditioning need only attend one night.
KCC Theatre Program Coordinator and show director Brad Poer describes the show as “A slightly dark yet blatantly hilarious interweaving of the characters and stories from Grimm’s fairy tales.”
Poer called the production “musically complex and thematically deep and powerful,” and said the KCC/What A Do production will include puppetry, animated projections and a full live pit orchestra.
Those interested in auditioning for the play should fill out the online “Into the Woods” Audition Form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf94jB53WWNkHp2xYrzOe_NNnRjQDFlyZvxzAe_aywxtIgmFA/viewform in advance.
Auditionees should wear clothes they’re comfortable learning choreography in and come read to sing 30 seconds of any song from “Into the Woods.”
All are welcome to audition regardless of experience, but actors selected must be at least 16 years old by opening night March 14. Auditions are open to community members and KCC students alike.
Production Schedule
Actors selected must be available to perform in the full production of “Into the Woods,” which will run for six showings over two weekends, March 14 through 16 and March 21 through 23, with Friday and Saturday showings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday showings at 3 p.m.
Rehearsals will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, and run from 7:30 to approximately 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through late March. Not everyone will be required to attend each rehearsal, but required tech rehearsals for all cast and crew will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 8 and 9.
