Kellogg Community College’s Admissions Office March 20 recognized outstanding high school counselor partners with Outstanding Counselor Awards.
The four 2025 award recipients include the following high school counselors:
- Amanda May, Harper Creek High School
- Lisa Redmer, Bellevue Jr./Sr. High School
- Josie Smith, Branch Area Careers Center
Additionally, KCC awarded the Russ Bortell Memorial Award to Kim Carroll, Graduation Coach at Lakeview Alternative High School.
The Russ Bortell Memorial Award is granted to the school counselor or employee who has shown exceptional dedication and service to their students for many years. It is named for the late Russ Bortell, a longtime KCC employee who was committed to helping students gain access to higher education and providing guidance on how to be successful in college.
KCC Early College and Dual Enrollment Manager Angie Bess said the College “is proud to recognize the dedication and impact of these outstanding counselors.”
“Their commitment to supporting students and fostering an environment that promotes college and career readiness is really above and beyond,” Bess said. “At KCC, we value our partnerships with the local schools and the counselors who work tirelessly to guide students through their educational journeys. These awards are a well-deserved acknowledgement of their passion and service.”
