KCC to honor U.S. veterans in Memorial Day Ceremony May 22 in Battle Creek

Kellogg Community College will honor U.S. military veterans in a Memorial Day Ceremony from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22. 

The Memorial Day Ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Circle Drive flagpole area on KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek, to honor veterans who have given their lives while defending the nation. 

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the campus Student Center. 

The ceremony will include: 

  • A welcome and opening remarks from Master of Ceremonies Col. Frank J. Walker 
  • Presentation of Colors by cadets from the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy 
  • The singing of the national anthem by student vocalist India Carney-Wright 
  • Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by KCC President Dr. Paul Watson 
  • Remarks from Brig. Gen. C. Robert Sechrist 
  • A laying of a wreath by Walker and Watson 
  • Taps played by KCC Jazz Band Director and trumpeter Eric Campbell 
  • Closing remarks from Walker 

Memorial Day this year falls on Monday, May 26, and all KCC campuses will be closed to observe the date. This includes KCC’s North Avenue and Regional Manufacturing Technology Center campuses in Battle Creek, as well as the College’s regional centers in Albion, Coldwater and Hastings. 

All campus locations will return to their regular summer schedules on Tuesday, May 27.
