KCC women’s volleyball season opens this month

KCC's 2025-26 women's volleyball team.

The Kellogg Community College women’s volleyball season opens this month and includes nine home matches at the College’s Miller Physical Education Building on campus in Battle Creek.

This year’s roster includes five returning sophomores and seven new faces under the leadership of third-year Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Judy Mason, who last year led the Bruins to the district semifinals with a winning 8-4 conference record and a 23-10 record overall – the most wins for the program since 2010.

This year’s returners include:

  • Sophomore opposite/outside hitter Makenzee Grimm (Battle Creek/St. Philip Catholic Central High School)
  • Sophomore middle blocker Caliey Masserang (Cadillac/Cadillac High School)
  • Sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Piper Porter (Athens/Athens High School)
  • Sophomore defensive specialist/outside hitter Anya Ruelas (Kalamazoo/home school)
  • Sophomore middle blocker MacKenzy Warner (Clare/Clare High School)

New on the roster this year are:

  • Freshman middle blocker Emilia Henneman-Dallape (Oregon, Ohio/Clay High School)
  • Freshman setter/opposite Laney Johnson (Houghton/Houghton High School)
  • Freshman outside hitter Brooke Koskela (Hancock/Hancock High School)
  • Freshman opposite/outside hitter Ava Longstreet (Coldwater/Coldwater High School)
  • Freshman defensive specialist Lylah Parrish (Climax/Climax-Scotts High School)
  • Freshman setter/opposite Addison Tucker (Marshall/Marshall High School)
  • Freshman middle blocker Maya Valentine (Marshall/Marshall High School)

Coach Mason will be joined courtside this season by new assistant coaches Brooke Johnson and Stephen May, along with returning Strength Coach Ben Yarger. Mason said she’s looking forward to another competitive season.

“We worked hard in the offseason and are bringing in some great talent,” Mason said. “Our schedule is tougher this year, but that is by design. We are looking to return to the Region XII tournament again, and this gives us the best chance to be ready to win it.”

The Bruins open the season with a series of scrimmages starting this Friday, Aug. 8, before season play begins in earnest with a series of away matches late this month. Fans can get a preview of the team in action at the team’s home scrimmage against St. Clair County Community College starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Miller Gym.

The team’s first home matches start at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, as part of the Kellogg Tri against the University of Northwestern Ohio JV and the University of Olivet JV, respectively, at the Miller Gym.

Admission to all home matches at KCC is free.
