Kellogg Community College will showcase the talents of a faculty and guest pianist performing pieces written for two pianos at an upcoming Faculty/Guest Artist Recital on campus in Battle Creek.
The recital, titled “Favorites Old and New,” will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, in the auditorium of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The event free and open to the public.
The recital program will feature works performed by faculty pianist Paula Harris and guest pianist Joan King spanning a variety of musical styles, including the following pieces:
- “Sonata for Two Keyboards Four Hands” (“Concerto a Duoi Cembali Concertati”) by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach
- “Ain’t Misbehavin’” by Fats Waller
- “Cheek to Cheek” by Irving Berlin
- “Suite No. 1 Fantasie Tableaux” (Movement 1, Barcarolle) by Sergei Rachmaninoff
- “The Garden of Eden Rags” (“Old Adam” and “Through Eden’s Gates”) by William Bolcolm
- “Scaramouche” (“Modere” and “Brazileira”) by Darius Milhaud
- “Amazing Grace” by John Newton
- “How Great Thou Art” by Stuart K. Hine
- “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” by Ludwig Von Beethoven, arranged by Nielsen and Young
- “Four Movements for Two Pianos” (#1 and #4) by Philip Glass

About the Artist: Faculty Pianist Paula Harris
Faculty artist Paula Harris holds an Associate in Arts degree from Kellogg Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Worship Arts (Piano Performance) from Spring Arbor University (2008). She has been a teacher and an accompanist in the community for several years, and taught at the Community Music School for more than 20 years. In 2017, Harris opened her own studio, Paula the Piano Lady, where she currently continues to teach. Harris served as the worship director for Chapel Hill United Methodist Church from 2000 to 2012, where she met King and formed the duo “Grands Grandioso.”
About the Artist: Guest Pianist Joan King
Guest artist Joan King holds a Bachelor of Music in Education from Western Michigan University (1974). She retired from the Community Music School in Battle Creek, where she taught private piano for 10 years. She was organist and accompanist for the chancel choir at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for 27 years, retiring in August 2025. She currently teaches private piano lessons from her home.
