Kellogg Community College has again been recognized as one of the best colleges in the United States to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For program.
The results, released Sept. 19 at GreatCollegesList.com, are the product of a 2025 survey open to all accredited institutions in the United States with an enrollment of at least 500.
KCC is the only college in Michigan recognized with the honor and is one of just six institutions honored in the Great Lakes Region, which includes Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Additionally, KCC is among just 22 of the total 76 colleges and universities honored as a 2025 Great College to Work For nationwide that are two-year institutions, according to the organization.
The organization awards honors across 10 recognition categories, and KCC won honors in two, including the “Compensation & Benefits” and “Faculty Experience” categories.
According to Great Colleges, the “Compensation & Benefits” honor is based on the perception among employees that they are compensated fairly and that benefits are adequate, contributing to a feeling that employees feel valued and respected at KCC.
The “Faculty Experience” honor is based on the faculty perception of institutional support across topics including advancement and promotion opportunities and the perceived balance of teaching, service and research, among others.
KCC President Dr. Paul Watson said the honors “reflect the heart of who we are as an institution.”
“When our employees tell us they feel supported, respected and empowered in their work, it validates the culture we strive to build every day at Kellogg Community College,” Watson said. “Our success as a college comes from the dedication of our people, and we’re committed to continuing to invest in their well-being and professional growth so that together we can serve our students and community at the highest level.”
The Great Colleges to Work For program, now in its eighteenth year, was designed to recognize colleges that have been successful in creating great workplaces and to further research and understand the factors, dynamics and influences that have the most impact on organizational culture in higher education, according to the organization.
Survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies and practices from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, maintenance and support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
Math Professor and KCC Faculty Senate Chair Trina Hegedus said the College has developed “a culture of collaboration where all of our oars are in the water, pulling in the same direction – and that direction is the success of our students.”
“From administration to faculty to support staff, we are all committed to our mission of providing our students with not just a quality education, but opportunities to learn and grow during their time with us,” Hegedus said. “Knowing that we have this support behind us allows us as faculty to do our best work both inside and outside of the classroom, doing the important work of connecting with and teaching our students.”
This year’s honor marks KCC’s third year of Great Colleges to Work For recognition; the College was also recognized in 2023 and 2022.
