KCC Theatre holding auditions for “Rehearsal for Murder” Oct. 2 and 3

Kellogg Community College Theatre is holding auditions for the College’s fall murder-mystery on campus in October.

KCC is looking to cast 12 to 15 actors for roles in “Rehearsal for Murder,” a murder-mystery adapted from a made-for-TV movie that originally aired in the early 1980s. The plot centers on a play within a play in which a playwright tries to prove his lover, an actress, was murdered.

Auditions are open to students and community members alike ages 18 and up and will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct 2 and 3, at the Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.

Those interested in auditioning should pick just one of the two nights for their audition. No prior stage experience or preparation is required.

The final cast list will be posted by noon Tuesday, Oct. 7, with the first rehearsal starting at 7:30 p.m. that night in the Binda. Following rehearsals will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for four weeks leading up to the show, which will open Nov. 14.

All cast members must have their own reliable transportation to and from rehearsal.

Actors selected must also be available to perform in the full production of “Rehearsal for Murder,” which will run for six showings over two weekends, Nov. 14-16 and 21-23, with Friday and Saturday showings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday showings at 3 p.m.

“KCC Theatre has chosen this particular show because of its potential to present some grounded, serious, layered acting up close to local audiences,” KCC Theatre Program Coordinator and show director Brad Poer said. “We are looking to give the audience a riveting, immersive, thrilling experience. If you’re willing to go all in on some serious drama – without creating any drama of your own when not onstage – come join us to have some fun!”
