The Kellogg Community College Jazz Band will celebrate the changing seasons with an evening of smooth grooves, soulful swing and autumn-inspired sounds at its fall concert in November.

The Jazz Band’s fall concert, titled “When October Goes,” will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in the auditorium of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The concert is free and open to the public, though donations to support future KCC music programming and initiatives will be accepted at the door.

Under the direction of KCC Jazz Band Director Eric Campbell, the band will perform a diverse selection of jazz classics and contemporary favorites “that capture the essence of fall, from crisp swing numbers to lush ballads and funky showstoppers,” according to Campbell.

The concert program includes:

  • “When the Saints Go Marching In,” arranged by Mike Lewis
  • “Autumn in New York,” by Vernon Duke
  • “Love the Feelin’,” by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Jeff Tyzik
  • “Autumn Mist,” by Larry Neeck
  • “Slide Show,” by Bob Curnow
  • “Maiden Voyage,” by Herbie Hancock, arranged by Erik Morales
  • “Indiana,” arranged by Dave Barduhn
  • “Autumn Leaves,” by Johnny Mercer and Ted Heath
  • “When October Goes,” by Barry Manilow and Wally Menard
  • “Zoot Suit Riot,” by Steve Perry, arranged by Paul Murtha
  • “1-800-Got-Funk,” by Vince Gassi

From the timeless elegance of “Autumn in New York” to the driving swing of “Zoot Suit Riot” and the reflective beauty of “When October Goes,” Campbell said the concert promises something for every jazz lover.

“This program really captures the mood of the season – the warmth, the reflection and the energy that comes as we move from fall into winter,” he said. “It’s a fun and expressive mix of classic and modern jazz that our audience will love.”
