The deadline to apply for Kellogg Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program starting this fall is Monday, April 6.

KCC’s PTA Program prepares graduates to test to become licensed PTAs who work under the direction of a physical therapist to provide therapy services to patients with health-related conditions to help them live fuller and more productive lives.

Completion of KCC’s PTA Program results in an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant degree and prepares graduates to take the National Physical Therapist Assistant Examination required for licensure in most states.

KCC’s PTA Program was the first program of its kind in the state of Michigan and the sixth program in the nation, with the first class graduating in 1973.

The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and consists of five academic semesters, including a summer semester. Coursework includes general education and hands-on technical PTA courses offered in a traditional classroom format on campus, as well as clinical PTA courses offered in a variety of clinical physical therapy settings off campus.

Graduates of KCC’s PTA Program in 2023 and 2024 surveyed by the College had a 97% licensure exam pass rate and a 100% employment rate for graduates seeking a position in the field.

Admission to KCC’s PTA Program is competitive, and just 30 students are admitted to the program during the application period each year.

Students new to the program this fall will be able to take advantage of $100,000 worth of new state-of-the-art physical therapy equipment, provided as part of a $1 million gift from Battle Creek’s Southwest Michigan Rehab Foundation in 2024 that also included a $900,000 endowment for PTA student scholarships.

Additional health programs at KCC

The application periods for KCC’s 2025-26 Radiography and Nursing programs are also open, but for a limited time with deadlines approaching.

Application deadlines for each program, listed in chronological order, are as follows:

  • Radiography: May 21
  • Nursing: May 21
  • Nursing (part-time nights and weekends): May 21
  • AP Nursing (part-time): June 1
  • Nursing (part-time; application available June 1): Aug. 13

Admission to the KCC health programs listed above is selective, and each program has its own admission process and application period each year. Applicants seeking admission into KCC’s health programs must first fill out a general KCC application and complete the required courses for each program before submitting a program-specific application.

KCC’s Medical Assistant Program also is accepting applications, though there is no set deadline to apply. More information about that program is online at kellogg.edu/ma.
