Kellogg Community College’s Arts and Communication Department invites the public to open October with a celebration of the arts.

KCC’s “Celebration of the Arts” event will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will include:

  • A reception with artist Meagan Wildt Thomas focused on her exhibit “Portals: The Abstract Nature of Memory,” running through Oct. 15 in the DeVries Gallery
  • A reception with the sculptors who created the eight new sculptures installed on campus this summer as part of the College’s Triennial Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
  • A campus sculpture tour led by KCC Art Professor Heather Stratton from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Student art for sale by KCC’s student Art League, with proceeds supporting the student artists

KCC’s Arts and Communication Department offers a robust arts curriculum spanning the visual and performing arts, with classes and community offerings spanning mediums from fine art, graphic design and photography to vocal and instrumental music, theatre and everything in between.

The College’s already significant arts footprint in the region was further bolstered by last year’s introduction of new Associate in Fine Arts degrees in Music and Visual Arts, with the first AFA graduate walking the stage this past spring.
