The Kellogg Community College Concert Band will celebrate the group’s 65th year of music-making with a special concert this month on campus.

The KCC Concert Band will present “Origins and Foundations” starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Christopher Momcilovich, the Concert Band will present a program that explores the powerful musical traditions and influences behind some of the most memorable music written for the stage and screen. The evening will feature a diverse selection of works designed to appeal to both longtime concertgoers and those who may be experiencing a live concert for the first time.

The program opens with Carl Orff’s dramatic “Carmina Burana,” arranged by Jay Bocook, including the iconic “O Fortuna.” The band will then explore the dark and imaginative world of film music in Michael Brown’s “Music for a Darkened Theatre,” featuring music by acclaimed composer Danny Elfman.

The program continues with Howard Shore’s music from “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” arranged by Gilberto Salvagni, followed by James Christensen’s “Disney Around the World,” a colorful musical journey through beloved Disney films and attractions. Audiences will also experience the suspense and drama of the movies in Justin Williams’ “At the Movies: Haunted Nights,” featuring music from some of cinema’s most memorable horror films.

The evening will conclude with Warren Barker’s “The Magic of Andrew Lloyd Webber,” featuring music from celebrated musicals including “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Evita,” “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

For 65 years, the KCC Concert Band has provided opportunities for musicians to perform, learn and share their love of music with the community. “Origins and Foundations” celebrates that history while looking toward the future, bringing together music that reflects the many ways instrumental music connects generations, stories and cultures.
