Kellogg Community College’s Bruin Youth Programming initiative is offering three Bruin Bots engineering and robotics camps for youth in July.
The camps will be held at the KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center, 405 Hill Brady Road, Battle Creek, and include:
The World of Lego Engineering ($69)
Grades 3-5
8:30 a.m.-Noon Tuesday-Thursday, July 5-7
Using creativity, imagination and Legos, camp participants will apply beginning and advanced engineering techniques to build complex Lego structures. Campers will learn to brace Lego structures for strength and function, understand gear ratios and build solid, working creations that can do amazing things. This robotic engineering course is the first step in preparing students for participation in FIRST youth robotics competitions and provides a great opportunity to enhance building and engineering abilities. This camp will engage students in third through fifth grades in a fun and interactive learning experience that will help develop the engineers of tomorrow.
Lego Robotics: The Obstacle Course Challenge ($99)
Grades 6-9
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 11-14
In this camp, participants will learn the basic design concepts required to create functioning robots. They’ll explore different types of robots and how and where they are used in the real world. Campers will be introduced to Lego Mindstorms sets and will have the opportunity to design and build robots that can perform the tasks required to complete an obstacle course. The camp will end with an obstacle course challenge in which everyone will compete to see which robot can complete challenges the fastest and earn the most points.
Introduction to VEX Robotics ($99)
Grades 6-9
1-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 11-14
In this new camp, participants will be introduced to VEX IQ Robotics Systems to create robots that can grasp, lift, climb and pull. Campers will create robots that are driver controlled and robots that operate autonomously with the use of sensors. Just like real engineers, campers will utilize the engineering design process of “think-do-test” to create and program functioning robots that can do amazing things. Camp participants will be engaged in an exciting learning experience that focuses on the critical technology and design principles that lead to the careers of tomorrow.
Multi-Camp Discount
Individuals who register for both Lego Robotics: The Obstacle Course Challenge and Introduction to VEX Robotics can sign up for both camps at a reduced rate of $175. Campers participating in the Best Deal camps should bring a lunch to camp each day to eat between sessions.
