Students and community members will have the opportunity to connect with nearly two dozen community service organizations on campus this month during Kellogg Community College’s semi-annual Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Student Center on campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek.
Kate DeGraaf, service-learning manager at KCC, said the purpose of the fair is to connect KCC students and the public with volunteer and service opportunities to help fulfill needs across the communities served by the College.
“The Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair is a great way to meet representatives from community organizations and discover new ways to connect your passions with the needs in our community,” DeGraaf said. “Those who attend can become more aware of the variety of services and resources available in our community and of the many ways they can become involved.”
Each semester, KCC’s Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair offers students and others interested in community service and service-learning the opportunity to visit tables and displays set up by participating organizations serving in the Battle Creek area. Representatives from each organization are on hand to answer questions and provide information, and in many cases attendees have an opportunity to sign up for specific service or volunteer opportunities during the fair.

Many KCC students pursuing an associate degree at KCC are required to have a service-learning endorsement on their transcripts, and DeGraaf said the Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair is a convenient way for students and organizations to connect to help students complete the projects required to earn their endorsement.
