The Kellogg Community College Foundation recently recognized and thanked Southern Michigan Bank & Trust for their financial contribution to KCC’s Gold Key Scholarship program and announced Kaitlyn Czajkowski as the financial institution’s 2018-19 scholarship recipient.
Czajkowski, a 2018 graduate of Bronson High School, was ranked at the top of her class and participated in sports, volunteer work and clubs during high school. She is attending KCC to pursue a career in health care with the hope of becoming a registered nurse.
The Southern Michigan Bank & Trust Gold Key Scholarship is a two-year award granted to a Branch County student selected by a KCC Foundation-appointed committee through an application and interview process. The scholarship awards $4,500 each year for up to two years as long as the student maintains eligibility.
KCC President Mark O’Connell and KCC Foundation Executive Director Teresa Durham expressed their deepest gratitude to Southern Michigan Bank & Trust for their continued commitment to the education and success of KCC students.
“Scholarship donors like Southern Michigan Bank & Trust are generous and caring people who unselfishly give to support the educational endeavors of students,” O’Connell said. “We are truly appreciative of Southern’s continued support to help KCC-bound students reach their educational goals.”
Students who apply for a Gold Key Scholarship must be a graduating high school senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and an ACT score of 22 or higher or SAT score of 1030 or higher. Students must also demonstrate leadership experience, school involvement, community service and volunteerism.
Once selected as a Gold Key Scholar and enrolled at KCC, students complete a Leadership Training Institute and must follow an approved KCC curriculum, adhere to the KCC Student Code of Conduct, maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA, become a member of the KCC Honors Program, hold a student leadership position and, when eligible, join the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
As Southern Michigan Bank & Trust recently renewed their commitment to the Gold Key Scholarship program at KCC, John Castle, chairman and CEO, expressed Southern’s belief in the value of education and their commitment to investing in future leaders.
“We want to give young people the opportunity to achieve their dreams, and the Gold Key Scholarship opens the door for students to do that,” Castle said. “We are proud to partner with the KCC Foundation and the College on a program that has such a significant impact.”
