KCC offering Career Exploration Experience day camps for teens in June

Students practice hands-on career activities during Career Exploration Experience camps at KCC.

Area teens will have the chance to explore future career options during Kellogg Community College’s hands-on Career Exploration Experience camps for youth ages 14 through 18 in June.

The camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 17 through 20, with each day dedicated to a different set of careers. Individuals can sign up for as little as one day or up to all four at registration. Career day camps offered include:

Camp Scrubs: Nursing and Allied Health
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 17

Take a peek into the fast-paced world of health care, including nursing, medical assistant and physical therapy assistant careers. Students will observe how to insert an IV, learn CPR and first aid and discover which branch of health care may best fit their skills.

Camp Future Heroes: Criminal Justice and Emergency Medical Services
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 18

Learn about careers in the public safety areas of law enforcement and emergency medical services. Students will test their skills using KCC’s driving simulator, which mimics a full-view driving course, and the College’s Emergency Medical Services simulation lab.

Camp Creative: Arts and Education
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19

Experience a variety of art activities and tour KCC’s Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center art gallery in the morning, then learn about the College’s teacher education programs in the afternoon.

Camp Mind Over Metal: Skilled Trades
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 20

Do you like to build, fix or take things apart? In this camp, students will rotate among different skilled trades stations to do hands-on activities and learn how someday they can be the one who manufactures the next big thing.

Each day camp is designed to provide participants with hands-on activities so students can experience a “day in the life” of each profession. Participants will meet professionals from each career field and learn about career paths, salary information and the types of equipment used in each field.
