Kellogg Community College is providing office space on the college’s Battle Creek campus for Michigan State Police Community Service Trooper Kristi Angelo.
Angelo, pictured above, who arrived on campus in July, is among the troopers needing space while the Michigan State Police post in Battle Creek is in the process of closing. She said her new office location in the Criminal Justice area on the third floor of the Lane-Thomas Building is a good fit.
“It gets me in the community and it’s centrally located,” said Angelo, who serves the 5th District in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo County. “In my position as community service trooper, I needed to find an office, and the college was nice enough to give me that.”
Tim Hurtt, chief of police at Kellogg Community College, said Angelo’s presence costs the college nothing while allowing it to give back by assisting her with continuing her community function, which includes working with crime victims and educating the public about crime prevention.
“We like the uniform presence on campus,” Hurtt said. “It can be a comfort for some and a crime deterrent for others. There are a lot of benefits to having her here.”
