Kellogg Community College’s nationally accredited Nursing Program has been reaccredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
ACEN reviews accredited programs five years after initial accreditation is granted, then every eight years following reaccreditation. KCC’s Nursing Program was initially accredited by ACEN in 2018.
Accreditation is an external review process assuring educational programs meet rigorous quality and improvement standards. Among other practical aspects for students, accreditation allows students to receive federal financial aid and transfer select credits to other colleges and universities.
KCC’s accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission, combined with the Nursing Program’s required approval status from the Michigan State Board of Nursing, also provides KCC Nursing graduates with eligibility to complete the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX), which allows program graduates to test for licensure to become registered nurses.
While the addition of national ACEN accreditation isn’t required, the designation ensures students and employers that KCC’s program meets the most rigorous and highest standards of nursing education to address the needs of the health care field. This provides graduates with a wider range of career and educational opportunities, including scholarship opportunities only available to students from nationally accredited nursing programs.
KCC Director of Nursing Education Marilyn Lawrence said receiving national reaccreditation from ACEN “is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our Nursing Program to excellence in education and preparing future health care professionals.”
“KCC is dedicated to nurturing exceptional nurses who will make a significant impact in the lives of patients and communities they serve,” Lawrence said. “We are proud to have met the rigorous standards set by ACEN, ensuring that our students receive the highest quality of nursing education and are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the dynamic health care landscape.”
