Kellogg Community College is seeking applicants for a phlebotomy training program starting in August, offered at no cost for Battle Creek residents who meet income guidelines.
The training program, offered through the College’s Innovative Accelerated Credentialed Training (iACT) initiative funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is a blended-learning course with in-person and clinical components that will run for 12 weeks starting Aug. 26 on KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.
The training prepares students for success in the clinical setting as they perform venipuncture and skin punctures – “drawing blood” – in a safe manner. Students will have the chance to complete their clinicals in a hospital or laboratory and will learn about the traits and characteristics required to successfully partner with customers and other health care professionals.
Individuals who complete the training will earn credentials including the WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate, college credits and continuing education units (CEUs).
Program training also includes:
- A free laptop computer
- Financial literacy and basic computer operation skills training
- American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid and Basic Life Support training
- Preparation to become nationally certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology
- Career coaches to help with goal setting, academic advising, barrier removal and job placement
Additionally, at the end of the training, KCC will partner with local employers to help connect students and health care providers.

Individuals interested in participating in the phlebotomy training program offered via KCC’s iACT initiative must contact the iACT program at 269-565-2828 by 5 p.m. Monday, July 1. Space is limited to nine students and fills fast, so interested applicants are encouraged to inquire quickly.
The program is offered at no cost to Battle Creek residents who meet income guidelines. Participants must be at least 18 years old, complete the Accuplacer Next Generation Reading test with a score of 244 or higher, agree to required immunizations and pass a criminal history background check and drug test prior to the start date.
