The Kellogg Community College Jazz Band is making date night a no-brainer with a free Valentine’s Day concert on campus in Battle Creek.
The KCC Jazz Band’s “Lovers and Legends” concert will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The event is free and open to the public, though a freewill donation will be collected to support future arts initiatives at the College.
Band members under the direction of KCC Jazz Band Director Eric Campbell will perform a diverse repertoire featuring timeless classics and legendary hits including romantic ballads, soulful grooves and energetic big band numbers sure to captivate audiences of all ages.
Featured performances include:
- “Time After Time,” a classic that embodies love and devotion
- “The Power of Love,” an energetic anthem celebrating the strength of love
- “My Funny Valentine,” a heartfelt ballad perfect for Valentine’s Day
- “God Bless the Child,” a jazz standard featuring the soulful trombone of Ken Richardson, sure to stir the emotions
- “Lucretia Mac Evil,” a high-energy hit that showcases the band’s dynamic versatility
- “Spring Can Really Hang You up the Most,” a poignant ballad featuring the expressive sounds of Bill Bandlow
- “Hip to Be Square,” a funky, feel-good number that will get the audience moving
- “The Blues Brothers Rockin’ Soul Revue,” a lively medley that pays tribute to the legendary Blues Brothers
- “Hold the Mayo,” a fun and flavorful instrumental tune
- “The Way We Were,” a classic featuring the powerful and moving performance of Garrett Shook, will transport listeners back in time
- “Make Me Smile,” a bright and uplifting closer to leave the audience in high spirits
Director Campbell said whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with a loved one or simply looking for a memorable musical experience, the concert promises to deliver “a night of enchantment and joy.”
