Applications for Kellogg Community College’s Full-Time Nursing Program and Part-Time Nights and Weekends Nursing Program starting this fall are due May 22.

KCC offers several levels of Nursing programming to meet the needs of students who require alternative scheduling options. KCC’s Full-Time Nursing Program generally takes students approximately two years to complete, including two fall semesters two spring semesters.

The Part-Time Nights and Weekends Nursing Program – introduced in 2023 – offers a schedule requiring just one weeknight of classes each week with clinical experiences offered on Saturdays. It generally takes students seven semesters or approximately two and a half years to complete, including three fall semesters, two spring semesters and two summer semesters.

KCC is the only regional college to offer a part-time associate degree Nursing Program option in addition to a full-time option to meet the needs of students with busy schedules.

Both programs ultimately result in an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing degree allowing graduates to complete the registered nurse licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

Additional program options with application deadlines coming up this spring and summer include deadlines for the Advanced Placement Part-Time Nursing Program (June 2) and traditional Part-Time Nursing Program (Aug. 15).

The traditional Part-Time Nursing Program differs from the Nights and Weekends option in that it requires weekday classes and starts in the spring; the Advanced Placement option is designed specifically for students who have a current Michigan LPN and who are seeking to complete Level II coursework to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing to become eligible for the NR-NCLEX.

The Nursing Program and Profession

The KCC Nursing Program prepares students for careers in the nursing field using state-of-the art, high-fidelity patient simulators in every Nursing course, along with comprehensive clinical experiences at health care facilities across Southwest Michigan.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for registered nurses in the U.S. was $93,600 per year (or $45 an hour) in 2024, the latest year statistics are available.

Among KCC Nursing graduates, 100% of 2022-23 associate degree graduates replying to program surveys within six to nine months after graduation reported they were employed in a position related to the nursing field.

Accreditation and Admissions

The KCC Nursing Program is approved and authorized by the Michigan Board of Nursing, and the College’s Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Program is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. (For more information about the ACEN, contact the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing at 3390 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30326, or at 404-975-5000 or visit acenursing.org.)

These accreditations let students and future employers know that KCC’s program meets the most rigorous and highest national standards of nursing education, and provide graduates with further employment, educational and scholarship opportunities only available to students from nationally accredited nursing programs.

Admission to KCC’s Nursing programs is selective due to space limitations, enrollment limitations imposed by regulatory bodies and program admission requirements, and a limited number of applicants are accepted to the programs each year. Applicants seeking admission into KCC’s health programs must first fill out a general KCC application and complete the required courses for each program before submitting a program-specific application.
