Second-year Kellogg Community College Physical Therapist Assistant student Hunter Duke, 24, of Homer, is a 2020 Litchfield High School graduate who graduates this spring from the KCC PTA Program.
Why did you choose your major/area of study?
I believe this profession will allow me to give back to my community in a positive way, while being able to help individuals meet their rehabilitation goals and learn about each patient’s unique journey through physical therapy.
Why did you choose to study your major specifically at KCC?
When I initially began to take interest in the field of physical therapy, I knew I wanted to go to local and affordable community college. KCC has been able to provide that for me as Calhoun County resident and has been a huge part of my success in the PTA Program.
What’s been your favorite part of your time at KCC, and why?
What I have truly appreciated during my time at KCC is seeing the commitment from numerous faculty, professors and other staff members having a “students first” mindset when it comes to helping students meet their academic and professional goals.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned at KCC?
The most interesting thing I have learned at KCC is learning about how complex the human body operates and how we as rehab professionals with a unique skill set can provide services to help people live happy and healthy lifestyles.
What is your goal for after you graduate from KCC? What do you hope to do for a career?
My goal after graduation is to work as a licensed physical therapist assistant in an outpatient physical therapy setting and provide services to those in need.
What advice do you have for current or future KCC students?
Health care programs at KCC will challenge your ability to critically think and apply what you’ve learned in a meaningful way. While these programs may be challenging, they are certainly rewarding and I would encourage other students to pursue health care professional careers at KCC.
Anything else you’d like to say?
The PTA faculty at KCC have had an unwavering faith in my ability as a student even when I doubted myself at times. Without their support and guidance through this program, my career aspirations of working as a physical therapist assistant wouldn’t be possible. I am extremely grateful for their commitment to my success as a student and truly appreciate everything they have done to help prepare me for my future career.
Applications for KCC’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program beginning the Fall 2026 semester will be available starting Jan. 26 and are due April 6. See details, application materials and more at kellogg.edu/pta-admissions.
