Kellogg Community College’s Music Program will host a Music Open House beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the auditorium at the college’s Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek.
The Music Open House is held each fall semester to kick off the music season at Kellogg Community College and to highlight the program’s offerings through the Individualized Music Lesson Area, which includes instruction in voice, piano, brass, organ, percussion, conducting, harpsichord and more.
The program will include musical presentations by advanced student performers and Kellogg Community College faculty, including Kathy Cary (keyboard faculty member), Paul Freeburn (guitar faculty member), and student vocal performers Shannon Egan, Janis Emery and DeQuan Perry.
Gerald Blanchard, Kellogg Community College vocal director and coordinator of the Individualized Music Lesson Program at the college, said the open house event is “an opportunity for the music area to showcase its most talented music students who are currently taking individualized music lessons from our current roster of instructors.”
Blanchard said the event will be held in an informal setting, rather than a formal recital setting, and that guests at the event can learn about registering for credit or noncredit music lessons at the college.
“All Kellogg Community College students have the opportunity to take private music lessons in any number of instruments and/or voice,” Blanchard said. “Students receive rigorous instruction from music division faculty preparing them for performance in studio seminars and master classes, recitals, auditions or for self-enrichment purposes.”
Blanchard said Individualized Music Lessons are private and include one-to-one instruction on a weekly basis.
