KCC is installing new hands-free period product dispensers in the women’s and gender-neutral restrooms at all campus locations, with all products offered for free.

According to Battle Creek’s Charitable Union, one in four people struggle to purchase period supplies due to lack of income. This is called period poverty, and chances are you may know someone who has experienced this.

Period poverty is defined as inadequate access to menstrual hygiene tools and education, including but not limited to sanitary products, washing facilities and waste management. KCC believes that no student should have to miss their classes because they don’t have access to necessary products or are unable to afford them.

KCC has partnered with the Charitable Union to provide additional information at each dispenser location for individuals needing monthly supplies.

The project is facilitated by the KCC Foundation in partnership with the College’s Facilities Department.

Teresa Durham, executive director of the KCC Foundation said, “The need for free and accessible products is real in our community, particularly for low-income individuals. KCC is committed to ensuring students won’t get behind in their studies or drop out altogether due to the lack of access to or having to pay for period products.”

The KCC Foundation is currently seeking donations for the free period product dispensers and is grateful to Women of Impact for being one of the first groups to support this project through their quarterly giving circle.
