KCC women’s soccer and volleyball roundup: Oct. 9-18, 2012

The Kellogg Community College women’s soccer and volleyball teams have finished up their 2012 seasons with a tough few games. Here’s a roundup of the past few weeks for each team.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

After coming off the team’s first conference win in program history, the Bruins have been 0-3 their last three games, falling 1-4 to Owens Community College on Saturday, Oct. 13, at home and falling 0-4 to Delta College on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in University City. Most recently the team lost 0-6 to Schoolcraft Community College in their last league game on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Livonia.

The team finishes fifth in their Michigan Community College Athletic Association conference and will not qualify for the 2012 NJCAA Region XII Women’s Soccer Tournament.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Following a tournament in Vincennes, Ind., early this month, the Bruins have lost three matches and won one, including a loss to Jackson Community College in three sets (14-25, 15-25, 20-25) in Jackson on Tuesday, Oct. 9; a loss to Grand Rapids Community College in three sets (16-25, 12-25, 18-25) at home on Thursday, Oct. 11; a loss to Ancilla College in four sets (25-21, 14-25, 15-25, 20-25) in Donaldson, Ind., on Tuesday, Oct. 16; and, most recently, a win over Muskegon Community College in four sets (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20) in their last home game on Thursday, Oct. 18.

The team is currently ranked sixth in their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference, with one league match left to play. That match begins at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow against Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. The Bruins defeated Lake Michigan in their last match, winning in three sets at home on Thursday, Sept. 27.
