The Kellogg Community College women’s soccer team begins its 2013 season Saturday with the team’s first home game.
The game, against Grace Bible College, will begin at 1 p.m. on the soccer field on KCC’s North Avenue campus, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. Admission is free.
The women’s soccer program starts its third year with a roster including four returning sophomores. Returning for the Bruins this season are defender Abbie Guebara (Decatur/Paw Paw High School), midfielder/goalkeeper Alex Guebara (Decatur/Paw Paw High School), midfielder Shelby Hays (Allegan/Allegan High School) and forward Taylor Underhill (Paw Paw/Paw Paw High School).
The Bruins this year hope to continue an upward trend in improvement since the program started at KCC in 2011, when the team finished the season 0-16 with zero goals scored. The Bruins improved to 6-9-1 in 2012 and saw sophomore captain Aubree Cable commit to play soccer at Carson-Newman University, an NCAA Division II school in Jefferson City, Tenn.
