Despite some initial weather-related setbacks due to a prolonged winter and snowy fields, the Kellogg Community College baseball season is in full swing.
The team split a doubleheader with conference opponent Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville on Saturday, March 29, falling 2-3 in game one but coming back for a 4-2 victory in game two.
At the plate in game one, freshman outfielder Benny Clark (Schoolcraft/Schoolcraft High School) hit two in four at-bats, including a double, and stole one base. Freshman outfielder Connor Owen (Richland/Gull Lake High School) hit one-for-three.
Sophomore lefty Keith Phillips pitched four innings for the Bruins, striking out three.
At the plate in game two, freshman infielder Chad Carson (Attica Township/Lapeer East High School) hit three-for-four, including a double and an RBI. Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Steve Remesnik (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll High School) hit two-for-three with an RBI.
On the mound for the Bruins in game two, freshman right-hander Kyle Mallwitz (Galesburg/Galesburg-Augusta High School) pitched four innings with three strikeouts for the win. Sophomore right-hander Ben Spieldenner (Vicksburg/Vicksburg High School) pitched three innings with four strikeouts for the save.
