The Kellogg Community College baseball team clinched the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference title this week with wins including a four-game sweep of conference opponent Grand Rapids Community College last weekend.
It’s the second consecutive year the Bruins have won the conference championship title and the first time the team’s won back-to-back conference championships since 2008.
The recent wins bring the Bruins’ overall record for the season so far to 35-5; the team’s conference record still stands at a perfect 20-0.
In addion to winning all four games against GRCC last weekend, the Bruins defeated the MCCAA Eastern Conference leader Lansing Community College in Lansing Tuesday in a game that saw the Bruins trailing the Stars 7-4 in the ninth inning. With bases loaded, sophomore Alex Walton (Marshall/Marshall High School) hit a grand slam, and the Bruins ultimately won 9-7.
