KCC baseball ranked first in the MCCAA’s Western Conference

Kellogg Community College’s baseball team is currently leading the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s Western Conference with a record of 14-2.

The Bruins split a four-game series with Kalamazoo Valley Community College this past weekend.

Friday, April 12, Game 1: KCC 13, KVCC 10

KCC baseball defeated Kalamazoo Valley Community College 13-10 in the first game of a double header home on Friday.

On offense for the Bruins, sophomore Brandon Haynes (Climax/Climax-Scotts) hit 3-3 at the plate earning two runs scored. Sophomore Spencer Nelson (South Bend/John Adams) hit 3-4, including four RBI’s and a double.

At the mound, right-handed sophomore Ethan Eldridge (Battle Creek/Lakeview) got the win with 3 innings pitched, with one strikeout, allowing two earned runs and four hits.

Friday, April 12, Game 2: KVCC 4, KCC 2

In game two Friday, KCC fell 4-2 to KVCC.

At the mound, right-handed sophomore Derrick Edington (Pickford/Pickford) got the loss with 4.2 innings pitched, striking out 8, allowing two hits and two earned runs. Right-handed sophomore Zach Karbowski (Portage/Portage Central) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing zero runs and striking out two.

Saturday, April 13, Game 1: KCC 5, KVCC 3

The Bruins traveled to Kalamazoo for round to with KVCC on Saturday, winning the first game of the double header 5-3.

On offense for the Bruins, Haynes hit 2-4 at the plate, including an RBI. Nelson also hit 2-4 and earned a double.

At the mound, left-handed freshman Connor Brawley (Stevensville/Stevensville) got the win in 6 innings pitched, striking out twelve, and only allowing two earned runs. Right-handed freshman Jacob Falzone (Howell/Howell) got the save with in one inning, and struck out one.

Saturday, April 13, Game 2: KVCC 4, KCC 2

In game two Saturday, KCC fell 4-2 against KVCC.

On offense, Haynes hit 2-2 at the plate, and stole a base.

At the mound, right-handed freshman Chad Sommers (Jonesville/Jonesville) got the loss with 4.1 innings pitched, striking out eight, allowing only three hits and three runs.

The Season Continues

The recent games bring the Bruins’ overall record for the season so far to 20-12; the team’s conference record is 14-2.

The team plays home tonight starting at 3 p.m. against Jackson College at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
