Those missing live music in these trying times may be interested in tuning in to Kellogg Community College’s performing arts social media channels this month, where KCC is showcasing past performances by faculty, student and guest artists through December.
The Performing Arts @ KCC Presents series will include a performance posted every Sunday afternoon through Dec. 27, as well as on Christmas and New Year’s, with options for listening via the Performing Arts @ KCC SoundCloud page at https://soundcloud.com/blanc1g or for listening and viewing via the Performing Arts @ KCC Presents YouTube playlist at https://bit.ly/3olZAUm.
Dr. Gerald Case-Blanchard, director of Vocal Arts at KCC and coordinator of the College’s music programming, said the series is just one more way the music area is continuing to reach out to the community at a time when the usual in-person classes have been moved online and annual concerts and events have been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19.
“Not unlike so many other artistic organizations around the world, we too are forced to be creative in how we provide content and opportunity for both students and our supportive public,” Case-Blanchard said.
The performances are free to listen to and view, with a donation link provided in each posting for those who wish to support future KCC music initiatives financially.
The series opened Nov. 29 with a posting of the April 19, 2019, Guest Artist Recital featuring soprano Dr. Maureen Carlson, pianist Paula Harris and baritone Case-Blanchard; the recital will be available on the sites until the next performance is posted.
Future Sunday performance postings in the series include:
- Dec. 6: KCC Concert Band Spring Concert, featuring the KCC/Community Music School Concert Band conducted by Laura Bandlow (original performance date May 5, 2019)
- Dec. 13: KCC Opera Workshop production of “Hansel and Gretel,” conducted by Case-Blanchard with Cynthia Garn on piano (original performance date Dec. 14, 2019)
- Dec. 20: Sounds of the Season, featuring the KCC Choral Union conducted by Case-Blanchard with accompanist Nancy Brown and organist Kathy Cary (original performance date Dec. 7, 2019)
- Dec. 27: Guest Artist Concert Event: Border CrosSing “Live at KCC,” conducted by Ahmed Fernando Anzaldúa El Samkary and presented in partnership with the Gilmore Keyboard Festival (original performance date Jan. 22, 2020)
There will also be special holiday presentations of the KCC Opera Workshop’s 2014 production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” which will be posted at 6 p.m. Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and again at 6 p.m. New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.
