These new financial aid opportunities include:

  • The U.S. Department of Education’s Fresh Start Initiative, which allows eligible borrowers in default on their federal student loans to reenter repayment status and restore their eligibility to receive additional federal student aid. More information is available via the Federal Student Aid fact sheet at
  • The State of Michigan’s Michigan Achievement Scholarship, which provides eligible high school graduates starting with the Class of 2023 up to $2,750 in aid per year to attend community college. Eligible students must demonstrate financial need, which is defined by the state as having an Expected Family Contribution of $25,000 or less when filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
