Kellogg Community College recognized student artists with $3,900 in awards and scholarships during an April 17 ceremony honoring outstanding work exhibited as part of the College’s annual KCC Student Art Exhibit.

The exhibit, featuring 169 works from 66 student artists, was on display at the Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery in KCC’s Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center April 15 through May 1. Exhibit art can be viewed online at rosep9.wixsite.com/kccstudentartexhibit.
Every spring, KCC Art, Photography and Multimedia and Graphic Design program students from the current academic year are invited to submit entries for consideration for the KCC Student Art Exhibit and awards. A faculty committee reviews and organizes all submissions and the bulk of the work is juried independently by an art professional chosen from outside of the College. The juror selects the major media category awards and honorable mentions, with cash prizes made possible through a generous donation made to the KCC Foundation by the artist Kimiko Petersen and her husband Sherman Petersen.
Awards listed below include these Kimiko Petersen Fine Art Awards – including one Best of Show ($500), one First Place ($250), four Best of Media ($200 each), 14 Honorable Mention ($100 each) and seven Distinguished Acknowledgment awards ($50) distributed across categories at the juror’s discretion – as well as additional miscellaneous arts awards.
Kimiko Petersen Fine Art Award winners this year were selected by juror painter and photographer Martin Hubbard, who taught art for many years at KCC.
