Two Kellogg Community College softball players have received post-season softball All-American awards from the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Sophomore infielder Mary Emington, of Cadillac, and freshman pitcher Holly VanTilburg, of Paw Paw, were named to the 2015 NJCAA Division II Softball All-American Second Team in May.
Both players were among seven Bruin softball players honored with post-season softball awards from the Michigan Community College Athletic Association last month, with Emington earning All-Region XII First Team, All-MCCAA and All-Western Conference First Team honors and VanTilburg earning Western Conference Player of the Year, All-Region XII First Team, All-MCCAA, All-Western Conference First Team and Western Conference Freshman of the Year honors in addition to being named to the MCCAA’s Western Conference All-Freshman Team. KCC’s softball team finished a record-breaking season this year as the MCCAA state champions and MCCAA Western Conference champions, finishing their season with a 27-5 conference record and a 37-13 record overall. The team won more games than any other softball team in the program’s history at KCC, making it as far as the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II Softball District I Championship.In addition to recognizing KCC’s softball program through several post-season awards for KCC’s student-athletes, the MCCAA also recognized Darrick Brown, KCC’s second-year head softball coach, with MCCAA Coach of the Year and Western Conference Coach of the Year honors last month.
