Kellogg Community College invites the public to join science faculty and students on an immersive study abroad experience to study environmental sustainability in Costa Rica this spring.
The trip, offered as part of the College’s SCIE 299: Field Experience course running this spring at KCC, will run March 29 through April 7, spanning KCC’s Spring Break.
The trip will include visits to a live volcano, waterfall gardens, Caribbean beaches and a rainforest. The bulk of the studies will be conducted at EARTH University, where several KCC employees visited in April 2016 to learn about the institution’s sustainable agriculture and ag education models.
Participants will explore ways to improve human welfare, increase productivity and reduce environmental impacts, attending lectures on topics including conventional versus organic agriculture; sustainability principles; measuring carbon footprints; and waste management.
