Kellogg Community College today announced it is canceling all previously planned campus events, public meetings and group tours through March 31 as a way of contributing to worldwide coronavirus (Covid-19) prevention efforts.
Among the canceled events are the St. Patrick’s Day Concert on March 15; the Phi Theta Kappa induction ceremony on March 17; the Board of Trustees meeting on March 18; the KCC community input sessions in Albion, Coldwater and Hastings; and the theatrical production of “The Wiz” on March 27-29. Also canceled are KCC baseball games March 13 and 14; decisions on upcoming league games will be made soon.
“Taking the advice of health officials at the state and federal levels to limit large gatherings, KCC is doing everything feasible to limit gatherings of people on our five campuses in order to protect our students, employees and guests and to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in the world,” said Dr. Adrien Bennings, President of KCC.
Some events may be rescheduled if conditions warrant and new arrangements can be made. For a full list of event cancellations and other information about KCC’s prevention efforts, visit Kellogg.edu/coronavirus for up-to-date information.
Today’s announcement of event cancellations follows yesterday’s announcement to students and employees regarding the suspension of face-to-face classes March 16-20. During the one-week suspension, all face-to-face instruction will cease on all KCC campuses in Barry, Branch and Calhoun counties, allowing faculty and staff to transition those classes to other formats, such as online-only, when those classes resume on March 23. Classes that are currently occurring in an online format will not be suspended or otherwise be interrupted.
As of today, all KCC campuses in Albion, Battle Creek, Coldwater and Hastings remain open, with no current plans to close. During the week of March 16-20, access to the Miller Physical Education Building on the North Avenue campus will be closed to everyone other than employees who are performing operational functions inside the facility.
Besides the Miller Building, other KCC services and offices are expected to remain open, including Student and Community Services, the Morris Library, the Bridge (tutoring) and Public Safety.
