The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations last week honored Kellogg Community College’s Public Information and Marketing Department with seven Medallion Awards for its efforts to recruit students, connect with the community and promote the College during the 2019-20 academic year.
The awards were announced Oct. 22 during the NCMPR’s virtual District 3 Medallions and Awards of Excellence ceremony, streamed live on Facebook. The NCMPR announced KCC had won awards in the following categories:
- Computer-Generated Illustration (Bronze), for portraits created by student design intern Maggie Wood
- Government Relations or Community Relations (Gold), for a promotional campaign surrounding the “Blaze Goes to the RMTC” children’s book
- Microsite (Silver), for the College’s dedicated 2020 Commencement website at alwaysabruin.com
- Poster, Single or Series (Gold), for a poster series highlighting Black History Month
- Special Event or Fundraising (Gold), for promotional materials surrounding the 2019 Bruin Blast and Civic Engagement Fair event
- Successful Recruitment or Marketing Program (Bronze and Silver), for the College’s Make It KCC and Be Bruin marketing campaigns, respectively
“KCC’s marketing team is driven to help students succeed by promoting the plethora of opportunities that await them as Bruins,” said Eric Greene, KCC’s Vice President for Strategy, Relations and Communications. “We are delighted to gain the recognition of our marketing and communications colleagues through the Medallion Awards program.”
KCC’s PIM Department, which provides a variety of in-house strategy development, marketing management, graphic design services and public relations leadership on behalf of the College, has won a total of 52 Medallion awards since 2012. The department also has won a total of seven prestigious Paragon Awards – national honors bestowed by the NCMPR – since 2012, including four last year.
Department employees include Eric Greene; June Lewis, print and document services staff assistant; Mike Loader, print and document services technician; Cab Rininger, media design manager; Brandon Smith, media design process specialist; Kristen Stolz, department assistant; and Simon Thalmann, digital marketing manager. The PIM Department also employs part-time student workers as an opportunity for KCC students to learn valuable, on-the-job marketing, communication and design skills.
The NCMPR represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges across the United States and Canada. District Three of the NCMPR includes schools in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario. Gold, silver and bronze Medallion and Paragon honors are awarded annually in a variety of marketing and public relations categories.
