Two women’s bowlers brought home Kellogg Community College’s first national championship in KCC bowling history with a first-place finish in the national Women’s Doubles competition Friday in New York.

KCC women’s bowling sophomore Brooklyn Page (Three Rivers/Three Rivers High School) and freshman Isabella Thomas (Flat Rock/Flat Rock Community High School) are National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Doubles National Champions after winning the category at the NJCAA National Championship Tournament Feb. 28 at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga, New York.

The women’s team as a whole placed in the Top 10 in the country with a seventh-place finish – the team’s second consecutive seventh-place finish nationally. Individually, Page also took home a Top 10 finish, placing ninth in the nation in the All Events category. Thomas finished 27th individually in All Events.

In the Women’s Singles category, freshman Emily Lemon (Marshall/Marshall High School), placed sixth.

Rounding out the women’s roster at nationals were:

  • Freshman Olivia Butler (Homer/Homer High School), who placed 38th individually
  • Freshman Andraya Gordon (Battle Creek/Pennfield High School), who placed 78th individually
  • Freshman Alexis Wood (Quincy/Quincy High School), who placed 35th individually

The men’s bowling team was well represented at nationals by freshmen Zhander Lord (Marshall/Olivet High School) and Cameron McKee (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School), who placed 36th and 68th, respectively, individually.

Both teams this year were again led by Head Bowling Coach Brad Morgan and Assistant Bowling Coach Matthew Thrun.

“The Bruins had a great time representing Kellogg Community College at the NJCAA National Championships,” Morgan said.

In addition to their success at nationals, the KCC bowling teams both finished fourth at the Michigan Community College Athletic Association State Championship earlier this season. The women went on to finish third in the NJCAA Region XII Championship, where the men finished fifth.

Individually, women’s bowler Page and men’s bowler Brady Louthan (Portage/Vicksburg Pathways High School) earned MCCAA All-Conference Team honors. Freshmen men’s bowlers Lord, McKee and Brady Harper (Coldwater/Quincy High School) all earned MCCAA All-Freshman Team honors.
