Kellogg Community College is bringing celebrated artist Go Bonus Saves to campus in May for a free artist lecture covering his work as a community muralist.
The lecture, presented as part of the KCC Art on Campus initiative’s DeVries Artist Lecture Series, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, May 8, in the auditorium of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, located on the south side of campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The event is free and open to the public.
Go Bonus Saves is the artist moniker of Kalamazoo-based artist Patrick Hershberger. In his lecture, Hershberger will discuss his mural work in the region and describe his artistic process with visual aids, followed by a Q&A.
Hershberger has been creating public murals under the name Go Bonus Saves for more than a decade, with dozens of exterior and interior works currently on view across the region. His work includes two murals for the Color the Creek mural festival in downtown Battle Creek (including the ducks mural behind Barista Blues Cafe, off Jackson Street, and an abstract design across from Battle Creek Central High School, on the old RiversEdge Ice Cream building on McCamly). He also participated in the inaugural Brush the Block mural festival in Kalamazoo this past fall, and one of his new mural designs was recently selected for a 40-foot-tall installation on a parking garage beginning construction in downtown Kalamazoo.
