Kellogg Community College will host the Michigan premiere of a documentary film centered on themes of fatherhood, grief, legacy and healing May 1 in Battle Creek.
The documentary “Big Bryce Son,” from Los Angeles rapper Bryce Savoy, explores Savoy’s experiences surrounding the death of his father, Bryce Fluellen, who grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1988.
Fluellen later moved to California, where he established a prominent career as a master chef, food justice advocate, entrepreneur and author before his death in 2024.
Savoy’s documentary presents a unique perspective on his journey navigating his father’s loss and the birth of his own son, which happened the same year.
“Big Bryce Son” will be screened from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 1, in KCC’s Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek, with a panel discussion/Q&A to follow. The event is presented by KCC’s Workforce Solutions Department in partnership with Neighborhood Diamonds and is free and open to the public.
