Kellogg Community College will honor U.S. military veterans in a Memorial Day Ceremony starting at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21.
The Memorial Day Ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Circle Drive flagpole area on KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek, to honor veterans who have given their lives while defending the nation.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the campus Student Center.
The ceremony will include:
- A welcome and opening remarks from Master of Ceremonies Col. Frank J. Walker
- Presentation of Colors by cadets from the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy
- The singing of the national anthem by student vocalist India Carney-Wright
- Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by KCC Vice President for Communications and Advancement Eric J. Greene
- Remarks from KCC Registrar and Petty Officer 2nd Class Rachel Marciniec
- A laying of a wreath by Col. Walker and Greene
- Taps played by KCC Jazz Band Director and trumpeter Eric Campbell
- Closing remarks from Col. Walker
Memorial Day this year falls on Monday, May 25, and all KCC campuses will be closed to observe the date. This includes KCC’s North Avenue and Regional Manufacturing Technology Center campuses in Battle Creek, as well as the College’s regional centers in Albion, Coldwater and Hastings.
All campus locations will return to their regular summer schedules on Tuesday, May 26.
