Kellogg Community College’s women’s soccer team made program history Wednesday, clinching its first conference championship with a 2-0 victory over Marian University Ancilla at home.

The win secured the Bruins the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference title and capped a strong stretch of play that included victories over two nationally ranked opponents earlier this month. KCC defeated Schoolcraft College, 1-0 on Oct. 3 and Delta College 2-0 on Oct. 10. Both opponents are ranked in the top 10 nationally in their respective divisions.

The Bruins’ strong performance helped propel them into the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national rankings for the first time this season, landing at No. 17 in the poll released Oct. 13.

“We accomplished an important goal today by securing the MCCAA West Conference title and the No. 2 seed heading into the regional playoffs,” Head Women’s Soccer Coach Levi Butcher said. “This is a tremendous achievement for our program and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our players throughout the season.”

The team wraps up regular season play with an away game against Muskegon Community College this Wednesday in Muskegon and a final home game, against Grand Rapids Community College, Friday, Oct. 23, on campus in Battle Creek. Regional play begins the following week.
