Kellogg Community College employees donated $17,740 to support the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region in their 2013 fundraising campaign.
Tammy Douglas, Director of Learning Technologies at KCC and a co-chair of KCC’s United Way campaign, said KCC is proud to continue supporting the United Way in efforts to address community needs related to education, health and income.
“We all know people who have been touched by United Way in some way,” Douglas said. “It’s exciting to watch the campaign dollars and volunteer hours at work in our communities.”
KCC employees have participated in the United Way campaign for more than 25 years, and in 2012 the organization awarded a Breakthrough Campaign Award to the College in recognition of its work on the United Way’s behalf.
“We at KCC see ourselves as community partners across the region,” said Eric Greene, Director of Public Information and Marketing at KCC and co-chair of the KCC campaign. “Our employees regularly volunteer their time and money to making sure the needs of people are met throughout the communities we serve.”
Fundraising initiatives held this semester at the College included a Chili Cook-Off (pictured above) and a Halloween Costume Contest, both held in October. Additionally, pledge forms were distributed to each KCC employee at the beginning of the fundraising campaign.
Money raised for the United Way is used for everything from supporting literacy for children to enabling older students and adults to attend college. Funds also help provide individuals with things like access to health care and job search and transportation assistance.
