Kellogg Community College is hosting a career fair in Coldwater from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, to help people learn more about accelerated training programs leading to employment in the corrections field, nurse aide program and industrial trades.
The career fair is being held at KCC’s Grahl Center, 125 Seeley St., at a time when the State of Michigan continues to hire corrections officers at a consistent rate. The college has hosted similar fairs in the past and helped place graduates in corrections positions around Michigan.
Representatives from the Michigan Department of Corrections, KCC Corrections Program, Lakeland Correctional Facility, Jackson College Corrections Officer Training Program, KCC Nurse Aide Program, KCC Industrial Trades Program, KCC Financial Aid office and Michigan Works! will be available at the career fair.
“It’s exciting that the State of Michigan is ramping up its hiring and we at KCC want to do everything we can to help people in our communities obtain those jobs,” said Ron Ivey, director of KCC’s Criminal Justice programs.
Nationally, corrections officers earn a median $39,020 annually and the occupation is expected to grow 5 percent from 2010 to 2020, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Job seekers who attend the career fair also will also have the opportunity to discuss other accelerated training programs available at the KCC Grahl Center and the Branch Area Careers Center.
