Kellogg Community College invites anyone with an interest in teaching at the college level as an adjunct instructor to attend an informational open house Oct. 10 in Battle Creek.

KCC’s Adjunct Instructor Recruitment Open House is 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, inside the Davidson Performing Arts Center, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. Department chairs from several areas of the College will be available to describe specific adjunct openings, discuss the benefits of teaching at KCC and answer questions of potential applicants.

“Because of the community’s evolving educational needs and the College’s desire to maintain its pool of excellent, qualified instructional staff, KCC is currently in a position to hire adjunct instructors,” said Dawn Larsen, Chair, Social Science and Education. “KCC is looking for people with a passion for teaching and learning in various disciplines and in various locations, including online courses and at the College’s campuses in Battle Creek, Albion, Hastings and Coldwater.”

Specifically, KCC is currently recruiting adjunct instructors in the following subject areas:

  • Art
  • Chemistry
  • Communication
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Early Childhood or Elementary Special Needs
  • English
  • General Biology
  • History
  • Human Anatomy
  • Human Physiology
  • Human Services
  • Math
  • Physical Science
  • Physiology
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Service-Learning
  • Sociology
  • Transitional English

In many subject areas, adjunct instructors are required to have a master’s degree or at least 18 post-bachelor’s graduate credits in the disciplines they’re teaching. For Early Childhood Education and Human Services, however, instructors are required to have at least a bachelor’s degree, but a master’s degree is preferred. Specific adjunct employment requirements vary, as do the hours and pay, according to course types and institutional accreditation standards. Applicants are encouraged to attend the Oct. 10 open house or contact KCC’s department chairs to learn more information.

Potential applicants, especially those interested in teaching as early as January 2018, are encouraged to bring unofficial transcripts, resumes and references with them to the open house.
