The Kellogg Community College women’s soccer team earned its first win of the season Monday with a 2-1 victory over Ancilla College away in Indiana.
Head KCC Soccer Coach Eierí Jordán Salivia said the goals were shared by sophomore Payton Olmstead (Bellevue/Home School) and freshman Ellie McGarry (Bellevue/Olivet High School).
McGarry (pictured above left) scored off an assist from freshman Bryn Cairns (Waterford/Waterford Kettering High School) within the first 30 seconds of the game to give the Bruins an early lead. Olmstead (pictured above right) scored on a later rebound off a long shot from sophomore Captain Rachel Bammer (East Leroy/Harper Creek High School) that the goalkeeper couldn’t contain, Salivia said.
“Victory for the ladies today. They really gave everything they had and that brought them tons of opportunities to score,” he said. “It was a great game and a needed boost before our final game of the season Wednesday when we will travel to meet St. Clair.”
The win comes on the heels of tough losses to Jackson College (13-0) and Muskegon Community College (8-0) on May 12 and 14, respectively, and leaves the Bruins with a conference and overall record of 1-4.
The Bruins wrap up their season against St. Clair County Community College in an away game that begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, in Port Huron.
